Photos of Methodist Central Hall, Westminster

Methodist Central Hall by Leonard Bentley

The site of many religious and political meetings and in the autumn the venue for the London branch of the Police Federation AGM. The meeting is traditionally addressed by the current Home Secretary and the Commissioner. It was Roy Jenkins, a Labour Home Secretary in the 1960s who said it was the most dreaded meeting on his calendar. I can remember the address by Merlin Rees in 1978, I have never seen such scenes of anger from the floor, so much so that he couldn't finish his speech. Shortly after, the Edmund-Davis pay scale was introduced. Now I wonder what happened to that?
